With early retirement in mind, Annie and Walt embarked on a project that would change their lives forever. They designed and had built a 38 foot steel boat in Holland. When the owner of the yard, where their dream boat was being built did a 'runner', the boat appeared to have hit the rocks before it had even been launched. However, they held their nerve, the boat was eventually finished and launched and, taking four months sabbatical leave they made a trial cruise around Scandinavia.

This was a great success, so they quit their jobs, sold their house, cars and everything else and set off to explore the world.

The first year, they sailed around Great Britain; crossing the North Sea, then through the Caledonian Canal, the Hebrides, Ireland and the Scillies, finishing at the end of the summer in Falmouth.

The following year, they sailed down to the Mediterranean. There were foggy passages, magical moments with dolphins, and starry nights at sea, as they made their way south along the Spanish and Portuguese Atlantic coasts. After a winter in Spain they spent the next summer meandering through the Balearic Islands, Corsica and Sardinia, a little bit of Italy, then Sicily and Malta where they spent the next winter. During the following summer they explored the Greek Islands and Turkey before reaching Cyprus, where we leave them preparing to sail around the world. There is more to follow in the next book.

However, with both variations of these circuit training programs, there are specific guidelines to build up to the full four exercises over a few weeks, and then to taper down again at the end of the program. (For example, you start with just doing exercises A and B in the first week.) Both versions are good for the whole body, though the figure variation was designed for female figure competitors, so there's a bit more emphasis on glutes, capped shoulders, and that kind of thing.

In these particular programs, if you want you also have full choice of exercises, so for example, for exercise A you can choose "any compound chest movement" or something. There is a list of exercises you can pick and choose. [Article] The summer of 1981 was indeed a fateful one for several young men who played collegiate summer ball in the Valley Baseball League (VBL) in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. For a trio of players on the New Market Rebels, it was the beginning of a journey that would see them enjoy lengthy major league careers. For three players on the Winchester Royals, Fate had seemingly propped open the door to legitimate dreams of future seasons in the big league sun as well, but 1981 would be the pinnacle of their baseball glory. It was a summer in which the team with Dennis Clow and Steve Peruso and Clay Daniel bested the team with Tom Browning and John Kruk and Dan Pasqua. Clow, Peruso, and Daniel together totaled 11 minor league seasons. Browning, Kruk, and Pasqua each played in the majors for 10 years or more.

Few would have predicted the degree of big league success for the Rebel trio. Browning was almost not allowed to return to the team, Pasqua was briefly dismissed from the team, and John Kruk, well "Johnny" did not fare well when he came up against a broom-stick wielding grandma after he accidentally spit tobacco juice on her carpet.

It was the Winchester Royals, founded by Keith Lupton who would go on to be named the executive of the year three times in three different minor leagues, who were the superior team. Their determination, their ability to stage improbable comebacks, and most of all their talent made the 1981 Winchester Royals one of the great summer league teams ever assembled.

Set as it was against the backdrop of the 1981 major league players' strike, the story of the battle for the President's Cup between the Rebels and the Royals epitomizes that mix of glory and poignancy that produces such passion in those who love the game.
