A Kid Name Billy: The Soul Collector

"Damn! What a mess," Bob, the first to arrive on the spot where the bear had attacked Billy and Alice, shouted as Sheriff Garrett rode up beside him.

"Is the Kid dead?" Sheriff Garrett asked as Bob jumped off his horse and examined the carnage.

"Is the Kid dead?" Dennis echoed Garrett as he pulled his horse to a stop beside the sheriff.

Bob shook his head. "No, he's not here."

"What happened, Bob?" Bart asked the question on the minds of the others as he rode up.

"The grizzly attacked," Bob said with a thoughtful look as though he was seeing things not there. "The boy pumped six shots into the bear's chest," he shook his head. "It didn't stop the bear. The grizzly killed the pack horse. Then went for the girl. She blew a chunk out of the side of the bear with her shotgun before it reached her. Damn, he did a number on her. I guess the boy was calmly reloading his Colt while the bear was attacking the horse and the girl. Because he shot the grizzly six times in the head when it came after him," Bob shook his head. "I can't believe the boy could remained calm and shoot straight with a wounded grizzly charging him. He's no ordinary boy. I beginning to think chasing him is a big mistake. I'm not sure I want to catch up with him."

"Well I'm damn sure," Dennis said. "He's got the gold bullion and I want it!"

"Bad enough to take a bullet?" Sheriff Pat Garrett asked.

"Not that bad but like you said, we used the rifles and pick him off from a distance," Dennis added.

Bart made a clicking sound with his tongue. "I have a bad feeling about meeting the boy. A really bad feeling."

"Then go home to that sod house of yours and plant turnips or what every you and your wife plants on your hard scrabble plot. It means more gold for the rest of us," Dennis snapped.

"No, I'm tired of digging in the dirt," Bart said.

"Then shut your trap! I don't want to hear any more about what a bad feeling you've got about meeting up with this crazy boy who is calling himself Billy the Kid. And we know he's not Billy the Kid, Sheriff Garret gunned the him down two years ago. I just hope this boy bleeds just like the next man. Sometimes I think we are chasing Satan himself!"

"Except that so far no one has been able to get any lead in him to see if he does in fact bleed," Sheriff Garrett said climbing back on his horse. "There no gold here, boys. Let ride."

"Shouldn't we bury the girl," Bart asked.

"Stay behind and do it if you want to see her in the ground so bad," Dennis said as he climbed into his saddle.

"It aint Christian," Bart said shaking his head as he mounted his horse.

"And since when did you become a bible spouting Christian?" Bob asked as he kicked aside empty cans of bean. "Sure, wasn't much of a last meal for the girl."

"How far is he ahead of us, Bob?" Sheriff Garrett asked.

"Five hours, more or less."

"Then let's make up some time," Sheriff Garrett said.

Westward Winds (Montana Mail Order Brides: Book 1)

Tessa O'Connor lives in a world of privilege and excess. Her doting parents want her to make a good match with a worthy gentleman and live a respectable life. She is beautiful and intelligent and she comes with a hefty dowry. There is no reason that she shouldn't be able to find an eligible man and settle down.

Tessa herself is the reason. The men who are attempting to court her are, in her opinion, boring and conceited. Not only that, Tessa craves excitement and adventure, of which there is little in her social circles. By chance, she comes across an advertisement for a bride brokerage company seeking eligible women of good breeding to go west and find husbands.

One man on the list catches her eye and she begins corresponding with him, eventually agreeing to go to Montana to meet him. She can't resist the possibility of finding someone different and even if she doesn't, the adventure itself would be worth her time. Tessa makes a successful escape and sets out to make a new life in Montana.

Dean Samuels is a Montana rancher who is in over his head. His ranch is struggling and his two children are unruly and in need of a caretaker. It's clear to his younger brother, Marcus, that he needs help. He tells Dean about a mail order bride service and convinces him that he should utilize it to find a wife.

After his wife, Sarah, had passed away, Dean never intended to marry again. His ranch and his children became his life. However, it becomes apparent that Sadie, his daughter, and his son, Jack, need stability and love. The demands of raising his children and keeping his head above water financially have taken a toll and Dean grudgingly gives in to Marcus' idea.

Sarah had been the love of his life and Dean doesn't intend to let any other woman into his heart. He's locked those kinds of emotions deep inside, not wanting to take the chance of getting hurt like that again. Because Dean has trouble expressing his feelings in writing, his younger brother Marcus agrees to help write the letters to Tessa. Dean is happy to leave that part up to him.

When Dean and Tessa meet, sparks fly between the two strong willed people. Tessa is disappointed that Dean isn't the romantic, sophisticated man she was lead to believe he was in the letters she received. Dean is aggravated that she isn't a meek woman who is easily managed. Never mind the fact that she has no idea of how to take care of children and keep a home.

Dean and Tessa struggle to find common ground and make their marriage work. Will they each take the risk and open their hearts to one another? Can their marriage survive and will they find love and contentment in each other? Their future happiness hangs in the balance under the Montana skies.

THERE'S A RUTHLESS KILLER LOOSE IN COCHISE COUNTY Jonas Cane is a peace officer with a problem; he has a gift that allows him to anticipate what others are doing. Evil has come to the Arizona Territory and Cane's power seems to be ineffective in tracking down a deranged killer. Welcome to the mining town of Bisbee in Cochise County of the Arizona Territory. It's 1881 and Bisbee is located 25 miles south of Tombstone, the county seat. While Tombstone has its difficulties with character clashes between the Cowboys and the Earps, Bisbee is not without its problems. A few months prior to the shootout at Tombstone in an alley near the O.K. Corral, Bisbee had to deal with the most sinister madman the west has ever, or will ever know. It is up to Deputy U.S. Marshal Jonas Cane to keep the peace and bring a criminal to justice. Can he do it? Will he do it? An Excerpt from the Book: "Look, I'm putting my gun on the bar." Cane slowly drew his single action Army Colt Peacemaker from its holster and laid it gently on the counter. Smilin' Jack Rawlings, the barkeep and owner of the Bisbee Queen Saloon, wasn't smiling. Even his dapper handlebar mustache seemed to droop somewhat at the ends. A little ray of sunlight filtered through the front window and landed on the wax at the tight ends of his whiskers while he held the terrible urge to urinate. Petrified with fear and needing to pee, it almost made him look like a wax figure. He stared across the bar counter at Marshal Jonas Cane and a drunk Sandy O'Sullivan. The saloon was empty except for the three men-- and the body of Douglas Fry lying near O'Sullivan's feet. All the other patrons had cleared out of the saloon until Cane arrived. Seven men and two prostitutes peaked into the windows and doors to watch Cane bring O'Sullivan in... or watch O'Sullivan hurt or kill Cane. "Marshal," shou

Mornings in Two Pan

With a sparkling touch of comedy and a cast of memorable characters, Mornings in Two Pan explores small towns and family secrets-and at the same time celebrates them. Jiggs Woolsey is "a jackrabbit hopping between projects, seeing how much he can mess up," according to his father. Their humorous arguments turn mean-spirited when Jiggs finds an old skull on the land that's been in their family since pioneer days. Jiggs seeks answers about the five generations of men who worked and carved the acres from Oregon's Eagle Cap wilderness. His aging father and the cantankerous old timers of Two Pan, a fizzled out gold community, will teach him-they're not willing to give up their secrets yet.
