I Will Teach You Excel: Master Excel, surpass your co-workers, and impress your boss!

Ever get passed up for a promotion or pay increase and wonder, "why didn't I get it"? Ever wonder if your skills are good enough to compete in today's crowded job market? You work hard, go above and beyond and still can't seem to get noticed. Many of today's jobs require that you be familiar with Microsoft Excel. How can you become proficient at Excel when companies aren't willing to teach you this valuable skill?

This leaves many people trying to learn as they go and never quite feeling 100% comfortable with the program. What's worse, most people haven't even scratched the surface of Excel's potential, even if they've been using it for years. If you feel this way, you're not alone.

Think about this for a second; what will your career look like in a year if you don't take action today and improve your Excel skills? How about five years from now? Unless you take matters into your own hands things may not look much different.

According to a recent Wall Street Journal article, people who show proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other common office applications earn, on average, 13% more than those who don't. For most people this could mean tens of thousands of dollars over just a few years, and this doesn't even factor in lost promotions and job offers. Can you afford to leave so much on the table as a result of maintaining the status quo?

I've experienced this transformation in my career and can tell you first hand how it has helped me. When I was fresh out of college and working my first accounting job my manager asked me to complete a project that involved using VLOOKUPS. I enthusiastically obliged, walked back to my desk, and proceeded to panic. I tricked myself into thinking that I was an excel expert only because I knew a few formulas, my limited knowledge only scratched the surface. I turned to a college buddy for help; Google. I eventually managed to learn what I needed, after a lot of time and energy.

I've climbed the ladder and worn many hats since then. I can't say that the opportunities I've earned in my career are solely due to my increasing Excel proficiency. What I can definitely say is that Excel has earned me more opportunities to prove myself to management than waiting for opportunities to materialize on their own.

That's why I decided to write this book. My goal is to take you from Excel novice to master in the shortest time possible. I wrote my book specifically for the busy professional, in an easy to read manner that gets straight to the point and teaches the meat of Excel. I wrote this book for you.

The Arab Spring Five Years Later, Volume 1: Toward Greater Inclusiveness

The dilemma felt particularly by Arab youth was captured in Tunisia by the self-immolation in 2010 of Mohamed Bouazizi, who was frustrated by restrictions on his small street-vending business. Bouazizi's death became the catalyst that seemed to light up revolts throughout the Middle East. The frustration had been building for some time: large segments of society were denied economic progress, while the middle class was squeezed, and governments had cut back on services and public employment. Since the series of uprisings began, the debate in Arab countries has focused almost exclusively on politics and questions of national identity. In fact, economic issues are driving the agenda, and real economic grievances must be addressed in order for the many transitions to succeed. Ghanem gives a thorough assessment of the Arab Spring, beginning with political developments since the revolutions and changes in the legal and institutional frameworks that affect economies. Arab economies grew at healthy rates before the revolts, but the benefits of economic growth were unfairly distributed. The politically connected reaped great benefits, while educated youth could not find decent jobs, and the poor and middle class struggled to make ends meet. Ghanem advises that Arab countries need to adopt new economic policies and programs that enhance inclusiveness, expand the middle class, and foster growth in undeveloped regions. Key elements include strengthening economic institutions, developing small businesses, reforming the education system to better prepare Arab youth for the modern labor market, promoting gender equality with the objective of raising female labor market participation rates, and setting up programs for rural and regional development to reduce inequality and eliminate extreme poverty.

Innovations in Quantitative Risk Management: TU M√ľnchen, September 2013 (Springer Proceedings in Mathematics & Statistics)

Quantitative models are omnipresent -but often controversially discussed- in todays risk management practice. New regulations, innovative financial products, and advances in valuation techniques provide a continuous flow of challenging problems for financial engineers and risk managers alike. Designing a sound stochastic model requires finding a careful balance between parsimonious model assumptions, mathematical viability, and interpretability of the output. Moreover, data requirements and the end-user training are to be considered as well. The KPMG Center of Excellence in Risk Management conference Risk Management Reloaded and this proceedings volume contribute to bridging the gap between academia -providing methodological advances- and practice -having a firm understanding of the economic conditions in which a given model is used. Discussed fields of application range from asset management, credit risk, and energy to risk management issues in insurance. Methodologically, dependence modeling, multiple-curve interest rate-models, and model risk are addressed. Finally, regulatory developments and possible limits of mathematical modeling are discussed.
